AI as a shared priority: French–Dutch cooperation in the digital age
Artificial intelligence is high on the agenda in both the Netherlands and France. The two countries share similar ambitions: technological sovereignty, rapid AI adoption in business, and a strong European position in the global AI race. This shared priority materialised in November 2025 during the Adopt AI Summit in Paris.
Adopt AI Summit: five years of French–Dutch participation
For the fifth consecutive year, Dutch stakeholders participated in the Adopt AI Summit, now one of Europe’s leading AI events. This year, the summit took place at the Grand Palais in Paris. Six Dutch startups took part: EW2Health, Apura Sovereign Private AI Cloud, 4 Earth 2 Mars Holding, Moai, GameAnalyze and Earthian AI. French President Emmanuel Macron highlighted the importance of European leadership in AI during the event. On the morning of the summit, a breakfast session was held in which Karien van Gennip — a member of ASML’s Board of Directors — and other Dutch representatives discussed European cooperation on innovation and AI.

ASML invests in Mistral AI
Around the same period, another development illustrated the French–Dutch AI dynamic: ASML invested in the French AI company Mistral AI, one of Europe’s most promising alternatives to major American AI players. Karien van Gennip was present at the Adopt AI Summit when the investment was made public.
It is important to note that this investment is not a direct outcome of the Innovation Pact itself. ASML and Mistral AI initiated this collaboration independently. Nevertheless, the deal exemplifies exactly the type of European cooperation the pact aims to stimulate: Dutch and French technology companies strengthening each other in strategic technologies, in this case the combination of chip design and AI development.
